“2nd Amendment Sisters Rally In Albany”

NYS Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) "Armed Informed Mother's Rally"

SAS will be holding a Rally in Albany on Mothers Day, Sunday May 13. The Rally will start with a meeting at the “Egg” of the Empire Plaza in Albany
at 12 Noon. There will be many speakers who are well known in the pro 2nd Amendment Community. After the opening ceremonies participants will march to the Governor‘s Mansion where more will speak.

Guest Speakers to date include:
Jackie Emslie, SAS member and NRA Instructor; Mary Stange, Author, "Gun Women: Firearms and Feminism in Contemporary America.” She will be doing a book signing at the rally; Peggy Tartaro, Executive Editor, Women And Guns Magazine; Amy Heath, Granddaughter of Col. Jeff Cooper, representing Gun Owners of America; Tim Andrews, President, Shooter's Committee on Political Education (SCOPE); Tom Chandler, SCOPE Albany Chapter Pres. and New York State Tyranny Response Team (NYTRT); Tom King - Pres., New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.

There will also be a Revolutionary War Re-enactment with a Fife and Drum Band leading the March along with a Color Guard. The Rally will begin with a Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem and Prayer. There will be informational tents for each participating organization. A First Aid Tent and security will be provided by the NYS Tyranny Response Team (NYTRT) Organization. There will be a hospitality tent with lemonade, water and cookies. Port-a-Johns will be available. SAS is waiting to hear from the Vets, 4H and other related organizations for speakers. I know of family groups who are planning to attend together.

If you couldn’t make it to the SAS March in Washington, DC last year you shouldn’t miss this event in Albany. SAS will be dedicating the Rally to current 2nd Amendment Issues in NYS and
Self-Defense, as a basic Human Right and an Individual Civil Right. Their mission will be to raise the awareness of New Yorkers about the issues and laws that effect our rights as law abiding gun owners. They will not pull any punches about the public servants especially Governor Pataki who has instituted some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. As NYS SAS Coordinator Geneice Hovak said, “Not only are we losing our rights but we will also pay to have it done!
We need to make gun owners aware of the power that they have when they are active and they vote as a bloc!”

Over the years I have been connected with several different 2nd Amendment, pro-gun and sportsmen organizations from the local, county, state and national levels - operated mostly by men. Some of these groups have been very effective and some haven’t. As I see it the ineffective and frozen groups have allowed themselves to be influenced, infiltrated and connected with operatives of self serving public servants and party bosses. And they are afraid to speak-up and tell it like it is for fear of upsetting a few public servants. The Second Amendment Sisters on the other hand appear to be speaking-up louder, carrying a bigger stick and planning much better than some of the major, established pro-gun and sportsmen groups of NYS. All of the power to SAS and I hope to see you in Albany on Mothers Day. It’s easy to get there and it sounds like it’s going to be a great day.

Fishing report from Art’s Gun and Tackle in Ellenville, NY - Route #209.

Art says that the action on Rondout Reservoir is good. He recently had customers stop in with one 7 lb. 9 oz. Lake Trout taken a Sutton Spoon; a 9 lb. Laker taken on a Husky Jerk Bait and a 12 pound Brown trout taken on a night crawler. Others have been taken on Cleos, Side Winders many from the shore line. Shiners are also productive at this time until Sawbellies become available. So it looks like they are hitting many different lures and bait. If you fish the Rondout and you get a nice fish stop at Art’s and they will take a picture of you and your fish and hang it on the wall with many others. The pictures are very interesting and are a good record of the fish potential the Rondout holds in its depths. The water level is the highest that I have seen in many years. The deepest part of the impoundment is approximately 140 feet - almost seven miles long - and is situated between Routes #55 and #55A. The local stream report is also good according to Art. In addition to stocked fish, Brown Trout in the 2-3 pound range are being taken on worms, small Rapalas, Blue Fox Spinners in the Sandburg and Roundout Creeks.

Rosie O’Donnel’s new magazine “Rosie” recently ran an on-line opinion survey/poll related to gun control. The question posed - “Are you for or against gun control?” The choices were as follows:

I’m for gun control.
I think everyone has a right to own a gun with no restrictions.
I think it’s OK to own a gun, provided the owner is licensed to carry a weapon.
I think it’s OK to own a gun, provided there are background checks at the time of sale.

After you make your check mark for the answer that you are in agreement with, a report is immediately presented. At the time that I responded it was running 83% in favor of #2 - “I think everyone has a right to own a gun with no restrictions.”

Adirondack Report

Friend Tom Waite sent me an email on April 9th saying that his back yard still had 30 inches of snow and reports from Rangers in the Adirondack Town of Newcomb in Essex County said 70 inches of snow fell in March. This has left 8-12 feet of accumulated snow on the ground. I am sure that the deer herd will be severely impacted. I guess we won’t be hiking the North slopes until the end of May.

Spring Turkey Season opens May 1st and ends May 31st. Be sure to check your 2000-2001 Hunting Regulations Guide (pages 14 and 15) and others for more specific information. All of NYS north of the Bronx-Westchester County boundary is open for Turkeys. Hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to Noon (Daylight savings Time). Season bag limits: Two Bearded Turkeys (one bird per day). Be sure to use hunter orange and wrapping a band of hunter orange around a tree that you may be sitting up against is a good idea. Be sure of your target and beyond. Have a safe, enjoyable Turkey Season. Success isn’t necessarily a measure of a full game bag.

Don’t forget to carry your camera if your so inclined.

Two years ago during the Spring Turkey Season I was sitting with my back against a stone wall and had four mature Whitetail Bucks standing within 40 feet of me for about ten minutes. They each had the beginnings of their new antler growth which grows quickly and by September the antler will be fully grown. It is then that the blood supply is cut off and the antler solidifies. It may be used during the mating/rutting season then shed in December or later in some cases.

Consider taking someone fishing, hiking, target shooting at the range or building a bird house and placing it in a good location. Try to make the trip to Albany on Mothers Day for the SAS March - I hope to see you there.
